Getting technical with London Metropolitan University

Tech innovations have bought much-needed solutions for many organisations which have been forced to adapt their catering and facilities operations in light of the pandemic.

However, we don’t believe tech is the answer – we believe tailored tech is.

How can the same, generic tech solutions be applied to thousands of organisations that all face diverse and complex challenges that are housed within their own unique buildings in which there are hugely varied facilities. That cater to completely different audiences and dietary requirements.  That have their own local competition that needs to be considered. They can’t be.

Not once in our 30 years have we used the exact same approach with one establishment to the other. We’re not planning to start now.

London Metropolitan University

Situated in central London, the University faces strong competition from nearby food and drink outlets, and so their key objective was to drive loyalty amongst their student population.  They also wanted to make their hospitality offering work better for them.

By tailoring the loyalty scheme so it was adapted to the students’ buying habits and behaviours, transactions increased by 9.4%, average transaction value increased by 7% and cashless top-ups increased by 6.2% in the first year alone.

The University also wanted to utilise tech to enhance the performance of their hospitality offering – to reduce admin time when managing recharges to cost centre codes, to increase the average spend and make informed decisions based on insights drawn from the tech data.

In the first 12 months, there was a 12% increase in the number of users, a 7.2% increase in the number of orders and a 5.6% increase in the average transaction value.

More recently they also wanted to enhance their pre-ordering capabilities in light of the pandemic. They have reduced queues at till points by offering grab-and-go items via pre-order, have created a genuinely pleasant contactless experience when on-site and increased average spend.

Our new tailored tech solution will help thousands of organisations within the Education, B&I, Sport & Leisure and Healthcare sectors rebuild their catering operations post-pandemic.
