Running in memory: Candice Finn takes on the Bristol Half Marathon for Alzheimer’s Society

April 22, 2026

Last year, Candice Finn, Managing Director here at Litmus, faced the heartbreaking loss of her beloved Mum after a difficult journey with Alzheimer’s and dementia. In May, Candice will be lacing up her running shoes to take on the Bristol Half Marathon in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society, running in her Mum’s memory and in support of families affected by the same devastating condition.

This challenge reflects not only Candice’s determination, but also her love for her mum and her desire to help bring greater awareness, understanding and support to those living with dementia and those who care for them.

Candice’s mum, described by her family as a ‘true force of nature’, lived a vibrant and full life before Alzheimer’s and dementia gradually took hold. Candice shares: “The early signs were subtle at first – changes that, in hindsight, are painfully recognisable. Mum’s passion for cooking and entertaining faded, conversations became repetitive, and her natural sense of adventure began to disappear.

“Over time, the impact of the disease became increasingly severe. Memory loss and confusion deepened, alongside significant anxiety and depression. It was incredibly difficult to witness someone so strong and spirited gradually lose the qualities that made her so special.”

Now, by taking on the Bristol Half Marathon for the Alzheimer’s Society, Candice is channelling that determination into action. Her training represents both a personal tribute and a wider commitment to raising awareness and funds for research, care, and support services.

Candice said: “To see my mum – the strongest, bravest, most resilient person I’ve ever known (as her nickname, ‘The Commander’ paid testament to), succumb to this cruel disease was utterly heartbreaking. I’ll be running this race in her memory, and for all the families impacted by Alzheimer’s and dementia.”

Alzheimer’s disease remains one of the most challenging health conditions faced by families today, not only because of its impact on memory and cognition, but because of the emotional toll it places on loved ones and carers.

Everyone at Litmus is incredibly proud of Candice for taking on this challenge – and training through the winter months earlier this year!
